چکیده

The different types of mineral industries wastes are characterized. Total tonnage in the world of finely ground wastes from i.a. flotation and leaching operations amounts to around 1 500 million tons per annum. The major environmental problems arise from slowly settling fine particles, dissolved metal ions and chemicals retained in the effluent. The paper discusses the toxic effects of dissolved metal ions in waste water as well as the effect of pH and sediments on water fauna. The comminution in mineral processing operations yields the surface of the waste mineral products a high reactivity. Therefore mineral wastes have a high adsorptive power for dissolved contaminations, i.a. metal ions and organic substances. This has a very positive effect on the water environment. The layout and operation of settling ponds as well as the use of flocculation agents are discussed. Legal and environmental aspects of metal mining wastes are considered.

Measures taken against water pollution in basic non-ferrous metal industries.

Waste water purification is shown to be an important field of environmental hygiene for non-ferrous metal industries. Hydrometallurgy becomes of greater importance for metal production and refining. Quality standards for drinking water and rivers require a minimum of some harmful impurities, e.g. metal compounds. The unit operations of hydrometallurgy technologically parallel the methods of eff...

Screening and Optimization of Heavy Metal Resistance in Alcaligenes faecalis Isolated from Contaminated Sites of Chambal Region-First Report

Heavy metal pollution increases day by day due to the intensive discharge of hazardous waste in soil and ground water. This hazardous waste generated by the activities of industries i.e. metal processing, surface treatment, smelting and mining, and the uncontrolled dumping of waste in soil. Living microorganisms used to reduce the contamination of heavy metal and waste by the process known as b...

Impact of copper mines and smelter on groundwater quality (Case Study: Rajasthan State in India)

Rajasthan is one of the main mineral potential state of India. During the last 30 years it has witnessed enormous expansion of mining industries, but mining of most of the minor minerals coupled with changing climate has posed serious problems to the environmental fabric in the state, apart from base metal beneficiation plants. Groundwater is also being polluted day-by-day by effluents generate...

The Empirical Relationship between Mining Industry Development and Environmental Pollution in China

This study uses a vector autoregression (VAR) model to analyze changes in pollutants among different mining industries and related policy in China from 2001 to 2014. The results show that: (1) because the pertinence of standards for mining waste water and waste gas emissions are not strong and because the maximum permissible discharge pollutant concentrations in these standards are too high, am...
